This is my jetta as she now is,
Shee's seen her share of road time, now shes a little worn out.
1986, VW Jetta Wolfsburg GLI
Warmed leather seats (warmer not working and leather cracked)
1.8L CIS-E engine with 300,000+km (odometer broken)
a little weak in the knees and blows a little blue smoke when starting.
there was a intermittent clunk in the tranny, but I havent heard it
for some time now.
Besides an engine and tranny, this car will also recieve some cosmetic
touches and some general TLC.
Since it is our second car, it will becoma my rolling project, being
upgraded as time and money allow, not that it will ever be a racer but
it'll be a nice cruiser anyway.

This is the New heart being prepared for the transplant. 2.0L ABA
engine with 60,000 miles (US car) aprox 100,000 km.
tranny will be replaced by a unit from a late 80's GTI with a lot less
miliage,and a 90 day warranty.
I've gone over the engine with a brass Wire brush then used a paintbrush
with varsol to clean the grease.
cleaned up nicely, then recieved a coat of paint.
|
|
I srtipped almost everything off that I could, for the cleaning.
the intake manifold recieved a red paint job, the block grey and everything
that was painted black originally was left black.
|
|
The good people at the wreakers were nice enough to include the
wiring harness, computer and MAS at no extra charge, nice since the MAS
alone would cost $500 new.
Now I need to create a hybrid harness to run the newer engine in a
older car

April 25,2003.
Picked up a tranny from the wreckers today
All I knew about it was that it came out of an a2 golf GTI with 190,000
kms on it
(120k miles)
Cleaning it up I discovered it was a 9A, I had suspected such but now
I know.
|
|
Also a little detailing,
Painted in the VW symbol and the 2.0L lettering,
It needs a little touch up, but looks alright.
|
|
More Detail,
With the tranny cleaned and degreased, I gave it a coat of Grey Paint.
Same color as the block.

May 8th,2003.
Here's a pic of my new rims on the jetta,
Yes I know it needs a wash, as well as a paint job This will come eventualy
The plan is to lower the front, as the back sags a little right now,
eventually Ill paint the car a deeper red color,
|
|
I picked up some really nice deep blood red for my '59 kombi I had a while ago,
but It will be going on the jetta instead.
gone will be the trim and flares, and rear spoiler.
in will be a corrado dash, single round headlights and bigger bumpers (I'm seeing if passat bumpers will bolt on)
